New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called upon the youth to root out the dynasts in politics and bring about a meaningful change in the society and polity.
‘Dynasty politics gives rise to incapability and dictatorship in a democratic setup, as such people work towards saving the politics of family and the family itself in politics,’ Mr Modi said at the valedictory function of the second National Youth Parliament Festival.
He said the days of winning election by the crutches of a surname were over, still this malaise of dynastic politics was far from over.
Political dynasty promoted self and family, instead of pushing nation first, Mr Modi noted. He said, ‘This is a major cause of social corruption in India.’
The Prime Minister remarked that politics was a big medium to bring about meaningful change and like every other field, presence of youth was critical in politics also.
Honesty and performance have today become the need of the hour, as honest people were getting the opportunity to serve, said Mr Modi.
He said the country was now preferring honesty over family connections and candidates were also understanding that only the good work matter.
The Prime Minister exhorted the youth to come into politics, as their entry would ensure the end of dynasty politics. ‘It is imperative for saving our democracy that you join politics,’ he said.
Mr Modi also remembered the contribution of Swami Vivekananda, on the occasion of his birth anniversary, and appealed to the youth to take inspiration.
‘You have a great guide in Swami Vivekananda and if, with his inspiration, our youth joins politics, country will be strengthened,’ said the Prime Minister.
