Pune: In the district, 462 fresh Covid cases were recorded yesterday. Since the outbreak, 3, 78,888 people have been infected, of which 3, 64,743 have been cured.
Seven people died because of Covid, taking the toll to 9,053. Among the fresh cases, 172 are in PMC, 110 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 143 in Pune rural and 37 in cantonment limits. There are around 2,000 active cases in Pune city of which 202 are serious.
289 patients are under oxygen treatment. Dr Ashish Bharti, civic body health chief said that yesterday, 4,152 tests were held by the civic body, which took the total to 10.23 lakh. Of the seven deaths, a 61-year-old woman from Hadapsar was the oldest fatality.
The cause of death is said to be acute respiratory failure. She was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. A 52-year-old man was among the deaths. He died of acute respiratory failure. He had no comorbidities. The state witnessed 2,630 new positive cases, taking the tally to 20, 23,814.
The recovery rate is at 95.23%. Maharashtra has 44,199 active cases. The death toll is at 51,042. Maharashtra has a case fatality rate of 2.52%. 1,535 Covid patients were discharged after treatment. Till now, 19, 27,335 people have recovered.
Meanwhile, the city’s Serum Institute of India has applied for allowance to begin trials of Covovax vaccine. The Pune-based firm has produced Covishield vaccine, co-developed by Oxford University and British-Swedish company AstraZeneca.
The central government has bought 11 million doses of Covishield vaccine for the on-going vaccination drive.
